The health and well-being of California’s student-athletes is a top priority for the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). The following are some initiatives for the CIF and its' member-schools.

It's widely known that stress, anxiety, and depression create challenges for both society and individuals, including interscholastic students. And severe conditions can lead to the worst outcomes, such as suicide.

The NFHS is proud to bring you this course on Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention in response to this reality. With a focus on wellness, including both physical and psychological, this course highlights causes, strategies and provides helpful resources.

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health issue in the United States. By understanding that anxiety is common and treatable, student-athletes can better manage its impact on their health and performance.

Depression is a common condition that can impact all students. Untreated depression can have serious consequences including suicide. Depression is a treatable mental health condition, and early intervention and treatment can lead to better outcomes.

Suicide is the second-leading cause of death among people ages 10-24. The incidence of suicide can be reduced by eliminating the misunderstanding and stigma that prevent individuals from speaking up and getting support.
