Leadership Initiative

Leadership Initiative

The Leadership Initiative was created to inspire leaders who view education-based athletics from a broader perspective to further the mission of the CIF to align the efforts of both Athletic Administrators and Site Administrators to support coach and athlete development. The following members contributed by sharing their experiences of equity in their communities across the state, finding resources to interrupt inequity, and using strategies to resolve the equity gaps in their school districts.

These resources are for site administrators, athletic administrators, coaches, athletes, and parents. It is important to note, these resources are progressive.  When choosing a strategy or resource, measure your comfortability with the student-athletes and the community you are serving. A goal is to build awareness of the variety of community members that create a culture in your schools. Another goal is to use strategies to allow equity among all community members on our school campuses.

Resources

Gender Equity - This one-pager was created to increase experiences for girls to learn about what a future in sports can entail, compile information of events currently taking place in Sections, statewide, and nationwide, and get more female coaches involved in education-based athletics.

Race Equity - This one-pager was created to increase opportunities for coaching development around race, provide strategies for coaches, athletic administrators, and site administrators to interrupt and prevent negative experiences, as well as provide strategies for coaches to create experiences for athletes to learn about and appreciate one another.

Access Equity - This one-pager helps Athletic Administrators identify areas in the state where school districts and athletes do not have access to facilities, equipment, and quality athletic experiences. Supporting strategies for the difficult conversation between schools, districts, security, community organizations, administrators, and athletic administrators for events are also highlighted.

Administrative - These resources are available for district and school site administrators.

Mental Health - This one-pager provides some initiatives for the CIF and its' member schools.

Emerging Sports - This one-pager was created to provide more opportunities for underrepresented populations throughout the state and compile resources for guidance in writing a proposal for a new CIF sport.
