Poway Boys Win Fifth State Wrestling Championship and Walnut Girls Win First State Wrestling Title
BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. — The CIF State Wrestling Championships concluded on Saturday as the Poway boys won their fifth State title, setting an all-time new scoring record of 290.5 points. Rounding out the top three boys teams were Buchanan (255 points) and Gilroy (206 points) securing second and third place respectively. For the girls, Walnut won their first State Championship scoring 96 points, with Newport Harbor (87 points) and Poway (77) placing second and third respectively.
Anaya Falcon (105-pounds), a senior from Walnut, became just the seventh three-time State Champion in CIF State Girls Wrestling history. Also, three girls wrestlers became two-time State Champions to include, Isabella Marie Gonzales (115-pounds) a junior from Clovis East, Duda Rodrigues (155-pounds), a senior from Newport Harbor, and Leilani Lemus (170-pounds), a sophomore from Clovis.
Additionally, five boys became two-time State Champions including, Ronnie Ramirez (120-pounds), a junior from Walnut, Daniel Zepeda (138-pounds), a junior from Gilroy, Brock Mantanona (150-pounds), a senior from Palm Desert, Robert Platt (215-pounds), a senior from Poway, and Cody Merrill (285-pounds), a senior from Gilroy.
