35th CIF State Cross Country Championships Recap

FRESNO, CALIF. – The 35th CIF State Cross Country Championships were highlighted with repeat winners and new records being set at Woodward Park. The Newbury Park boys won their fourth straight State title with a DII best course score (24) and team time (74:34). Additionally, senior Lex Young led the Panthers with an all-time best DII boys time of 14:28, a third-best all-time male course mark. In girls action, Buchanan won their fourth State Championship with an all-time DI team-best score of 40 points and a fourth-best DI time of 89:32.

Individually, sophomore Hanne Thomsen of Montgomery repeated as the girls DIII champ with a second-best all-time divisional time of 17:13. Sophomore Sadie Engelhardt won the girls DII title with a third-best all-time divisional time of 16:58 (third-best all-time for a sophomore). Junior Payton Godsey of Oaks Christian won the girls DIV crown with a fifth-best all-time divisional time of 17:01 (fourth-best all-time for a junior), while junior Emmanuel Perez of Cathedral won the boys DIV race with a seventh-best all-time divisional time of 15:06. Additionally, Evan Noonan won the DIIl boys race with a third-best all time sophomore time of 15:05, while senior Micah Sanchez of Liberty Charter won the boys DV title with a sixth-best all-time divisional time of 15:14

In girls team competition Campolindo won their seventh State title, repeating as DIII champions with a third-best all-time team time of 92:08, while JSerra Catholic repeated as DIV champs (fifth all-time title) with an all-time second-best DIV team time of 92:29.

On the team side for the boys, Great Oak won their seventh DI Championship and Oakdale won their first State title with a fifth-best all-time DII team score (56) and second-best team time (78:31). St. Francis (La Cañada) won their first State Championship with a fifth-best DIV team time of 80:15, while Crystal Springs Uplands won their first State title with a second-best DV team time of 80:04.
