High School Teams with Highest GPA in the State Honored
SACRAMENTO, CALIF. — The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) today announced 38 State Academic Team Champions for the 2021-22 school year. The CIF State Academic Team Champions program was initiated in 1996 as a way to reward teams with the highest collective grade point averages, based on an unweighted 4.0 scale, in their respective sport.
CIF State Academic Team Champions will receive a banner, suitable for display in their school gym, to recognize this accomplishment. All nominees were their respective CIF Section Academic Team Champions. Section offices forwarded their winners to the state office for consideration.
The North Coast Section had 13 teams represented, followed by 11 teams from the Southern Section and eight teams from the San Diego Section. The Sac-Joaquin Section had three teams, followed by Central, Central Coast, and San Francisco Sections with one team apiece.
Amador Valley (NCS), Cristo Rey De La Salle (NCS), Crossroads (SS), and Marin Academy (NCS), each had two teams accomplish a state-high team GPA.
In total eight teams achieved a 4.00 GPA. Two girls and boys cross country teams accomplished a 4.00 GPA; Crossroads, Middletown, Bonsall, and San Francisco International, respectively. The boys' soccer team and girls' volleyball team from Cristo Rey De La Salle also each achieved a 4.00 GPA, as well as the boys' swim and dive team from Technology (Rohnert Park) and girls' tennis teams from Thacher.
