Provide a school-based liaison that will act as the main point of contact to work with Special Olympics concerning all Unified Sports/Unified Champion School activities. The liaison focuses on: 

  • Keeping your Principal and AD involved and informed
  • Support from other teachers/staff/coaches on campus to serve as Special Olympics coaches
  • Team Recruitment  
    • Student-athlete with intellectual disabilities
      • The best place to start is with Special Education or Adapted Physical Education Students
    • Student-athletes without intellectual disabilities
      • The best place to start is within General Physical Education or ASB classes
  • Clearances - High School Athlete Physical
  • Identifying practice/competition structure, using best practices 
  • Ensuring coaches take NFHS Coaching Unified Sports Coaches Course 
  • Connect with other student groups for support (such as ASB)
