101st CIF State Track & Field Championships Recap

CLOVIS – The 101st CIF State Track & Field Championships took place May 24-25, at Veterans Memorial Stadium – Buchanan High School, in Clovis. Winning their first team State Championship titles were the Buchanan girls and Clovis North boys.

Individually, there were several repeat champions: Calabasas senior De’anna Nolwing defended her 100-meter dash crown with a final time of 11.55; Senior Kenan Christon of Madison (San Diego) tied the CIF State Championship record in the boys 100-meter dash with a 10.30 mark (he also won the 200-meter dash); Upland senior Caleb Lutalo Roberson retained his title as the champ in the boys 300-meter hurdles with a final time of 36.32.; Senior Daniel Viveros of Liberty (Bakersfield) won his second consecutive State title in the boys shot put with a final mark of 68-10.50; and Fowler senior Jocelynn Budwig repeated in the girls shot put with a final mark of 49-02.75 (she also took home the girls discus crown, a state-career first).

Also, impressive was Silver Creek senior Jazlynn Shearer who won two state titles in both the 100-meter hurdles and girls triple jump, while Clovis North junior Caleb Foster was the State Champ in both the boys long jump and triple jump.

Additionally, the Long Beach Poly girls took home the 4x400 meter relay, good for their 12th state title all-time.
