Recap - 42nd Annual CIF State Volleyball Championship Finals

ORANGE, CALIF. – The North and South Regions split the six division matches with the South taking Open-II and the North taking III-V during the 2019 CIF State Volleyball Championships at Santiago Canyon College. The following is a brief recap of all six contests.

 

Open Division: Torrey Pines def. Marin Catholic 3-0 (25-11, 25-23, 25-14)

Torrey Pines swept Marin Catholic to win their first State title in their fourth attempt. It was a true team effort by the Falcons with Delaynie Maple and Maya Satchell leading the way tallying 10 and eight kills respectively. Carly Diehl totaled 24 assists for Torrey Pines while the team totaled a match-high 11 service aces. Kari Geissberger led Marin Catholic with 11 kills in the loss.

 

Division I: Vista Murrieta def. Campolindo 3-1 (20-25, 30-28, 25-22, 25-21)

Vista Murrieta claimed their first State crown in their first appearance as they defeated Campolindo in an exciting four-set match. Claire Little led the Broncos with an impressive 30 kills, while Molly Wilson totaled 34 assists in the win. The Cougars were led by Erin Thomas’ 10 kills in the loss.

 

Division II: Ontario Christian def. Los Gatos 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-20)

Ontario Christian swept Los Gatos to claim their second consecutive State Championship in as many appearances. The Knights were led by Jena Holmes (21) and Peyton Tazelaar (17) who total 38 of the team’s 53 kills. Los Gatos was led by Hannah Solver’s 17 kills in the loss.

 

Division III: Lowell def. South Pasadena 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 25-20)

Lowell won their first State Championship in their first try defeating South Pasadena 3-1. Alina Qi led the Cardinals hitting an impressive .762 (21 kills), followed by Mariko Tanaka and Eliana Brown contributing 12 and 11 kills respectively. Lowell also recorded a match-high eight team blocks on the day. South Pasadena was led by Lola Foord and Abby Garner with 17 and 10 kills respectively. The Tigers totaled a match-high 13 service aces in the loss.

 

Division IV: Aptos def. Nordhoff 3-1 (25-12, 25-17, 26-28, 25-21)

Aptos won their first State title in their second appearance, defeating Nordhoff 3-1. Peyton Dueck tallied 20 kills in the win, while Alana Patyk-Randa recorded 37 assists. The Mariners also totaled a match-high nine team blocks on the day. Nordhoff was led by Ashley Johnson and Sasha Frazier with 13 and 10 kills respectively in the loss.

 

Division V: Mount Madonna def. University 3-1 (25-15, 20-25, 25-22, 25-8)

Mount Madonna won their second State Championship in their second attempt, defeating University (Los Angeles) 3-1. Paula Jacobs led the Hawks with 25 kills, while Savannah Cambell recorded 41 assists in the win. As a team, Mount Madonna tallied an impressive 16 service aces on the night, including five from Cambell and another five from Kiana Kitchel. Taadi Henderson led University with 12 kills in the loss.
