Repeat Champions & New Team Course Records Highlight 29th Annual CIF State Cross Country Championships

FRESNO – The 29^th annual CIF State Cross Country Championships included many repeat champs and new team course records. The Great Oak girls continued to dominate DI as they won their fourth consecutive team title (fifth overall), setting a new team course record of 89:11. The Flintridge Prep girls (DV best course record of 95:59), Brea Olinda boys (DIII second best course time of 78:31) and Great Oak boys (DI best course record of 76:09), all won their second consecutive State Championship. The Flintridge Prep boys won their fifth State title as they set a new DV boys course record of 79.41. Also, while placing second in team points, the Santa Cruz girls set a new DIV team course record of 93:53.

Individually, Austin Tamagno from Brea Olinda won his second consecutive State title, while setting a DIII boys course record with a time of 14:45. Cate Ratliff from Santa Cruz set a new DIV girls course record with a final of 17:03 en route to her first State Championship. Phillip Rocha of Arcadia also claimed his second consecutive State title while setting a new DI boys course record of 14:42.

Additionally, in team competition Aptos won the DIII girls race for their second team title, Loyola won the DII boys race for their sixth State crown, while the Saugus girls won the DI race for their ninth State Championship in 10 years.
